Homeschool Humanities

Nature provides so much inspiration for the arts as well as the perfect immersive experience to learn about the cultures that make up Appalachia today, as well as those from the past. Homeschool Humanities was designed to create additional Homeschool support for families seeking a deeper dive into literature, arts, music, Indigenous cultures, and instill a love of place for Appalachia.

a typical day

Each session, students will have time with various learning stations that include place-based learning including geography and history, creative writing, nature journaling, art technique and instruction, and music exploration. Students will arrive at 10 am and rotate in age-appropriate pods between stations until 1 pm. During this time, parents are welcome to wander around the site for their own time in nature or build community but must remain on-site in case of an emergency. We will be diving into theater in Spring 2024!

From 1-3 pm, students are encouraged to engage in free play with mixed-aged children promoting a suite of executive function skills like communication, teamwork, problem-solving, game creation, compassion, child-led exploration, and more. During this time, parents are responsible for their children’s location and safety.

Our teachers are Annie, Christina, and Gaby. You can learn more about them here.

To participate in our homeschool program, families must be members. Check out our membership options here: Join Us.

Our homeschool member families also have access to a private Facebook group where we post announcements and discuss each day’s learning objectives and activities.

Our other homeschool enrichment opportunities include Forest Friends and all of our Adventures. Neighborhood Nature is a stimulating do-at-home STEAM curriculum perfect for homeschoolers.
